Second appointment of the pilot project to spread the culture of Cyber Security in Secondary Schools promoted by the Cyber Security Italy Foundaton, the first non-profit foundation in Italy on the cyber world, founded and chaired by Marco Gabriele Proietti. After the training meeting at the Istituto Paritario “Visconti” held at the end of October, it was the turn of the Higher Education Institute “Giorgi-Woolf” in Rome with the involvement of the students of two fifth grade classes. The students had the opportunity to discuss with experts, including operators from the National Cybersecurity Agency and the Postal Police, the importance of cybersecurity and the risks and threats of misusing technology.
How to be a digitally aware citizen? How to defend yourself against cyberbullying? How to use IT tools safely and carefully? These and many other questions were answered by Monica Scannapieco (Division of Research and Awareness Programmes of the National Cybersecurity Agency), Luca Scittarelli, (Deputy Quaestor of the Postal and Communications Police Service), Matteo Macina (Deputy CTS Director of the Cyber Security Italy Foundation) and Salvatore Marcis (Head of Channel and Territory Sales Trend Micro Italy).
“The great enthusiasm and interest we are gathering during our meetings shows how topical and necessary it is to address the issue,” Proietti explains. “For our project to raise awareness among the student community, we have received the appreciation of institutions and numerous other schools throughout the country. We are therefore committed to involving other schools throughout the country. It is our duty to adequately prepare the new generations to face the challenges of the rapidly changing digital world. Without training, there is no planning and no progress. Cyber education above all is the key to unlocking our country’s growth potential in the digital landscape. Investing in cyber security skills and awareness not only protects our cyber assets, but is also a solid
‘foundation for innovation and competitivness’.
The next event is scheduled for early December at ITIS ‘G. Armellini’, also in Rome.
